Schifferl is well-known and regarded for duck decoys, in addition to his finely rendered water fowl illustrations. Schifferl was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois; but wanting to escape the city, he moved to Green Bay Wisconsin in 1956 where he remains to this day. He is a graduate of The American Academy of Art, and has traveled to Europe for additional study. Schifferls has a deeply entrenched regard for things old and historic, to the extent that his decoys and paintings are executed in a manner that mimics the warm, soothing patina of age. His works have appeared on the covers of "Decoy Collector's Guide" (Sorensen and Schifferl, 1968) and "North American Decoys", and the book, "The Art of the Decoy" (Earnest and Schifferl, 1965).
