Moore was born in Kensington, Connecticut, where he spent most of his life. He is best known for his charming, detailed depictions of his New England Kensington environs. He studied under New York artists Thomas Cummings, noted miniature portraitist, and Daniel Huntington, Hudson River School landscapist. His paintings focused on the more humble themes of America life, although later in his life he concentrated on landscapes. In addition to landscapes, his specialties included figures, animal and snow scenes. He exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Association, where he was also a member, and the National Academy of Design.
